We aim to purchase a building for Imam Bargah / Islamic centre in Reading, Berkshire. Over the last two years, we have managed to organize regular (weekly, monthly and annual) programmes in hired halls. In order to take this mission further and expand our services for the local community, we need a permanent place as soon as possible. Permanent place will be used to:

  • offer prayers on regular basis

  • provide weekly classes of Quran and religious eduction

  • organize Majalis / lectures without time constraints

  • spread the message of Karbala and Qeyam e Imam Hussain (a.s) and Marifat e Quaim Aal e Muhammad (a.s)

  • have resident scholar for the local community to benefit

  • meet community needs (social, religious, educational and spiritual) on a larger scale

  • establish Sunday school on permanent basis for children

  • provide a library for the local community

  • provide foundation of an Islamic centre / Imam Bargah in Reading

We are probably the only community in the Reading without a permanent place!

The chart below provides overview of where we stand now and what is the target to achieve as soon as possible.

Members have also been requested to increase monthly contribution to minimum £50 in order to meet the on-going operational cost of hall / permanent place and resident scholar.

Shia Ithna Ashari community in Reading Berkshire is growing day by day and there is no permanent place of workship, Azadari and community gathering. At the moment, regular weekly and monthly programmes are being held in hired halls.

Operations committee have placed offer for a couple of properties Total budget of £500,000 is estimated to purchase a building that would suit the community needs on long term basis. Local community has gathered funds of about £165,000. More funds of about £200,000 are needed as soon as possible to pay bank deposit, and other charges including solicitor fees, administration and builder / architect fees and start construction phase etc.

We have to purchase a building of our own. We have successfully arranged regular events over last two years, there is always risk of cancellation of hired venue at the 11th hour; it is a challenge to find any suitable place for continues days (e.g. for Muharram); logistic and time limitations are a always a challenge; double booking is required sometimes for events depending on moonsighting. It is also vital to have permanent place to expand our mission which includes having a resident scholar and regular sunday classes for children.
